The AU story
AU is a pioneer in online learning. Our founder dedicated most of his time to his strong belief that everyone, everywhere should be educated. A cable mogul, Jones launched the cable network Mind Extension University™ (ME/U™), enabling 30,000 students to take courses through television from more than 30 colleges and universities.
In the early days of the Internet, Jones foresaw the potential and in 1993 founded AU - the first university with a fully online presence. Despite the naysayers, Jones knew in his heart that this was the future of education. So in 1999, AU became the first fully online university in the United States, which makes me very proud. Since then, we've continued to develop and expand our degree programs - all designed to meet the needs of busy professionals eager to shape the future.
